Festival Review: Laughing Stock ****

Ashling Findlay-Carroll reviews a 'fast paced, slick, energetic' performance.

Laughing Stock is a super silly series of sketches featuring a wide array of every day characters in increasingly bonkers situations. Made up of Arabella Gibbins, Lewis Doherty, Phoebe Higson & Rhys Bevan, they change accents, costumes and physicality as often as they change character.

We meet two couples, the founding members of the Caravan Club who strongly advise us against going to ‘the cabin’, an angsty YouTuber, a king and his forgetful servant Magic Mike and, my personal favourite, Billy and Ron the cowboys, whose tale of unrequited love is truly hilarious, to name but a few. The joy of the piece is that when we see these quirky and idiosyncratic individuals, we know them, and there are guffaws of recognition.

The foursome sing, play multiple instruments and make noises with their mouths that you cannot believe—they are versatile bunch for sure! The show is fast paced, slick, energetic and guaranteed to have you laughing out loud within minutes.

Run at Underbelly ended.
