In our ongoing series,Lorna Irvine looks at One to Watch: Shamir.
Ah, the arrogance of youth. Shamir Bailey, at just twenty years of age, is by his own admission: "musician, comedian, singer, rapper and twerker".
It's this over-inflated sense of self-belief that has propelled the young artist from Nevada to the attention of such tastemakers as Pitchfork Magazine in the USA and 6 Music's Lauren Laverne in Britain, but for once the hype seems justified.
He is stylish, androgynous and good-looking, with a decent musicality to his flow and great early 90s production values, somewhere between the late Frankie Knuckles and FSOL.
Debut EP Northtown dropped to much noise in June, and cheeky new single 'On the Regular' warns, "Don't try me-I'm not a free sample".
Quite. He'll cost ya.
