Review: Locked In--Distillery Escape *****

Jo Turbitt reviews an experience that's 'seriously great'.

This immersive, experiential, environmental "theatre" piece is awesome. I had no idea what to expect and can now definitely recommend that you book to go and make sure that this experience is firmly embedded in your 2016 Fringe memory bank.

If you miss it, then worry not: it's in Edinburgh to stay and available throughout the whole year.

If you're a fan of the Crystal Maze or Broken Sword; go. If you're an analytical, logical, creative thinker: go. If you get a buzz out of out-of-the-box problem solving and love Sherlock: go, go, GO! But make sure you bring a mate, or 4, for without my trusty companion I'd still be in there!

Whether you're a Poirot, Marple or Sherlock fan, your crime-solving instincts will kick in as you revel in piecing together the story, which you unearth in the room you're locked into. You have one hour to solve two crimes, working through a series of clues; it's simple, it's done brilliantly and it's genius.

Heidi Richardson and Jackie Jack have produced a masterpiece, inspired by the goings-on and surroundings of Summerhall. This ethos sings through the Distillery Experience in the characters you meet, the tools you use and the substance of the piece.

To say anymore would spoil it. Richardson and Jack have uncovered a gem, and they're not stopping there; keep your eyes and ears open for more experiences from these two. I want to go back and do the other rooms, I want to be a guinea pig for their future ideas!!

Seriously great.

At Summerhall. Contact venue for further details, times and prices.
