Adam is a rich industrialist, who aspires to a more cultured world. Spurred on by playful jibes that he is little more than a city suit living the capitalist's dream, this frustrated amateur opera singer decides to throw an opera in his lavish country retreat.

Christopher Menaul’s picture is almost worth seeing in a “so luvvy it’s unintentionally laughable” way.
Opera looks like fun. Hooking up in the countryside, less so.
Truly dreadful drama even Mozart can’t rescue.
Not to be mistaken for Fright Night, although this silly romcom for the Glyndebourne set may unsettle viewers of a nervous disposition.
A stiff drink is recommended to get you through this, and then another immediately afterwards.

It’s to director Chris Menaul’s credit that his lack of big-screen experience isn’t evident, but the same can’t be said for his cast who are, by and large, too stiff to charm.
