Comedy, Romance

What happens when a man and a woman share a common passion? They fall in love. And this is what happens to Jean-René, the boss of a small chocolate factory, and Angélique, a gifted chocolate maker he has just hired.

What occurs when a highly emotional man meets a highly emotional woman? They fall in love, and this is what occurs to Jean-René and Angélique who share the same handicap. But being pathologically timid does not make things easy for them. So whether they will manage to get together, join their solitudes and live happily ever after is a guessing matter. Read more …

The critical consensus

Charming but uneven, director Améris's film doesn't know whether to make us laugh or cry, and ends up doing neither. Still, a smart script offers plenty to keep incurable romantics happy.

A sugar-coated change of tack from an underrated filmmaker. Won’t win Améris many new fans, though.

Some will gag, others will guzzle.

Charming but insubstantial, mostly due to the pair sharing so little screen time, it's likely to cause a Gallic shrug rather than a sugar rush.

***(*)(*)Daily Record, 02/12/2011

A whimsical Gallic confection that is as sweet and delicate as spun sugar.

t is a pleasant little film, reminiscent in tone of the 1930s comedies of René Clair and Jean Renoir.

Philip French, The Observer, 04/12/2011

The result is a film that keeps telling us how perfect the leads are for each other without supplying much in the way of onscreen evidence.
