Hilarious start, but a disastrous last hour
Might just be the year’s best comedy
Oh just go and see it. And send me the bill if you don’t laugh.
McKay and co-writer Dave Henchy keep on pumping out gags; their movie often looks like a 107-minute comedy sketch, and I laughed throughout.
Ferrell and Wahlberg make a seriously good comedy team.
The laughs dry up, however, once the silly heroics kick in, the mayhem and car chases reducing it to exactly the formulaic twaddle it set out to tease.
Without aspiring to be much more than low-brow Saturday night entertainment, The Other Guys deserves credit for delivering on its promise.
The Other Guys is a lot better than most of the comedies around at the moment, but by the end it seems to run out of gas and instead of spoofing cop flicks it starts looking and sounding much like one of the films it's supposed to mock.
The Other Guys is one of the funnier films of the summer, but it would have been immeasurably improved if it had discovered a sense of purpose before its dying moments.
After a summer devoid of big-screen lunacy, the cast still manage to supply a stream of well-paced daftness propelled by Ferrell's particular brand of absurd humour. Just submit to the craziness of it all and enjoy.
In a year short on genuine cinematic laughs, this is funny stuff.
Skewers the action genre while also finding room for sheer madness. We’ve still yet to see the equal of Ron Burgundy, but this latest offering is a wonky yet worthy addition to the McKay/Ferrell pantheon.
