The untold story of 'bad-boy' Johnny Cash, his talented but troubled manager, Saul Holiff, and a son searching for his father in the shadow of a legend.
For Cash devotees who want a hitherto-hidden perspective on their man, though, this is invaluable viewing.
The reconstructions of key episodes that Holiff directs feel synthetic and unconvincing, but the pull of the narrative is very strong, and by the end the sense of lives baffled and unfulfilled rises to something extraordinarily poignant.
