Flint Lockwood now works at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V. But he's forced to leave his post when he learns that his most infamous machine is still operational and is churning out menacing food-animal hybrids.
Audiences who appreciated the first film will enjoy the silliness, but uninitiated viewers may find a second serving of Meatballs is hard to swallow.
It’s energetic but still feels like leftovers.
Loveable - especially if you're as fond of a pun as we are - and extremely silly.
The second helping of Meatballs resembles the explosive ‘party in a box’ designed by inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader): bright and playful, but also loud, messy and hollow.
Madder than a box of chocolate frogs.
It lacks the heart of the first but the animation is terrific and it’s endearingly silly.
The look of the film is a garish feast of primary colours.
Fortunately, the animators get stuck in: the foodscape Flint's party passes through is again wittily realised, each frame sprinkled with colourful hybrid creations, from "flamangos" to "shrimpanzees".
For anyone wishing to tickle the tummy-buns of a Double Bacon Cheespider, there's a menagerie of colourful mutants to distract your attention from the absence of anything more substantial.
