Three teenagers forced to leave their family, friends and homes behind learn to live in yet another hostile country. That country is the UK.
Goodison’s ace is his cast: when he just lets us watch them, their natural warmth provides all the conviction needed.
Authentic, important, patchy.
Goodison displays a sure, Shane Meadows-like touch with his lively unknown leads, and finds eloquent, cinematic ways of describing their hopes, dreams and fears.
The subject matter is downbeat but Goodison, helped by a likeable young cast, brings moments of humour and lyricism to the storytelling.
This ambitious low-budget feature lends an authentic voice to often marginalised figures.
