This is an elegant, effective thriller which shows the impact we have on the lives of others; how, with so much else in play, our futures may not be ours to decide.
Shame that the plotting favours narrative intrigue over character depth, creating a film whose message is witnessed rather than felt.
It’s a shrewd portrait of a rapacious, unhappy society.
The recipient of numerous awards in Italy, this is a handsomely mounted affair, although I wouldn’t bank on it repeating its garlanded domestic success in America.
