A widow falls for a guy who bears a striking resemblance to her late husband.
The good news, though, is that the film is held together by Bening and Harris, both of whom are wholly convincing even when the film around them isn’t.
Silly melodrama.
A soapy but stirring romance with two committed leads.
Posin (who based the story on a real-life incident) and co-writer Matthew McDuffie transcend the awkwardness of the film's more on-the-nose moments, achieving a resolution that's both powerfully emotional and genuinely romantic.
Featuring Annette Bening, Ed Harris and a poignant cameo from Robin Williams, this promising oddity unravels into absurdity.
Visually, the film is very conventional. It unfolds in the affluent LA suburban homes of its art-loving protagonists and has none of the giddy, expressionistic quality of Vertigo. The actors, though, lift the material.
Interesting set-up, but follow-through doesn't quite work.
Sadly, this all feels like a wasted effort.
