Trainwreck

Trainwreck

Comedy, Romance

Having thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.

The critical consensus

At times it feels as if five different films are going on at once, but Schumer’s whip-smart delivery and no-holds perkiness keeps it all in place. Just as her director wilfully mines his own life for laughs, there is a whole lot of Amy in Amy.

****(*)Ian Nathan, Empire Online, 10/08/2015

Fresh but imperfect romantic comedy that's a launchpad for Amy Schumer.

***(*)(*)Katherine McLaughlin, The List, 10/08/2015

Amy Schumer is a force to be reckoned with – but despite some belly laughs Trainwreck doesn’t quite transcend the romcom formula like the best of the genre.

***(*)(*)Matt Maytum, Total Film, 10/08/2015

Judd Apatow’s latest, with Amy Schumer as a dope-smoking writer who sleeps around, lacks punch but packs in the laughs.

***(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 13/08/2015

On a romcom joyride with outrageous Amy Schumer.

****(*)Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent, 14/08/2015

A victim of high expectations, the great tragedy of Trainwreck is that it’s still one of the funniest romantic comedies in recent memory.

David Ehrlick, Little White Lies, 12/08/2015
