Despite the Falling Snow (12A)

Drama, Mystery, Romance

In Cold War Moscow, a female spy steals secrets from an idealistic politician - and falls in love with him.

The critical consensus

There’s not enough chemistry between the principles to invest in the various relationships, the dialogue is crap (‘My God, what have I done?’), and the 90s revelations and romantic complications never build to the kind of big emotional payoff they promise.

**(*)(*)(*)Angie Errigo, The List, 11/04/2016

An old school romantic thriller that lacks the subtleties and sophistication of recent spy storytelling, be it on the big screen (Bridge Of Spies) or small (The Night Manager).

**(*)(*)(*)Ian Freer, Empire Online, 07/04/2016

For all its invocations of Russian history, this is a glorified telenovela at heart.

**(*)(*)(*)Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent, 13/04/2016

This laboriously acted and directed spy tale-cum-love story is like a Jeffrey Archer airport novel with uninteresting, guessable revelations.

**(*)(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 14/04/2016

It is a wearily predictable tale of coincidence and tragedy.

**(*)(*)(*)Allan Hunter, Daily Express, 15/04/2016

A dreary, incompetently plotted and flatly directed Cold War melodrama.
