Delightfully, in the hands of director Stephen Frears it is a confident balance of uproarious laughs and genuine pathos, a lively, colourful, tender (and beautifully dressed) celebration of crazy dreamers and love.
Though Stephen Frears directs this almost as if it were a 1940s screwball comedy, there is a real poignancy here.
Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are on top form as the ‘diva of din’ and her dutiful manager in an enjoyable biopic from Stephen Frears.
A fizzy, funny, period dramedy with top-notch performances, Florence Foster Jenkins doesn't take many risks but it's a very entertaining experience. And yes, she was that bad.
