An adaptation of the Dave Eggers novel that struggles to make itself stand out, content instead to coast by on gentle comedy and Hanks’ charm. Pleasant but ultimately forgettable.

A wistful charmer of a film buoyed by another great Hanks performance.
Hanks gives a superb performance and the picture is beautifully shot but the story drags and a romantic sub-plot with a local female doctor (Sarita Choudhury) fails to convince.
Even Tom Hanks’s reliable hassled everyman act can’t lift this tale of an IT salesman adrift in the Saudi desert.
