Street Cat Named Bob, A

Street Cat Named Bob, A

Comedy, Drama, Family

Based on the international best selling book. The true feel good story of how James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict, had his life transformed when he met a stray ginger cat.

The critical consensus

It's the acting that pulls you through. Treadaway is very watchable in the lead, full of determination and desperation. And then there's Bob; yes, it's the real moggy, largely playing himself. What a performance!

****(*)James Mottram, The List, 31/10/2016

If you’re partial to cats and don’t mind a bit of saccharine with your social realism, it’s the kind of movie to leave you purring in approval. If not, you'll probably come out in hives.

Too twee to do [the story] justice.

James Bowen attributes his survival to an alley cat but as viewers we need more of his story than endless closeups of a nethers-licking feline.

**(*)(*)(*)Mike McCahill, The Guardian, 03/11/2016

The film is often heavy handed as it tugs at the heartstrings and some of the supporting characters are a little wooden but the story remains an irresistible heartwarmer.

A homeless junkie bonds with a cute cat in a heartwarming if slight buddy film.

***(*)(*)Wendy Ide, The Observer, 06/11/2016

A Street Cat Named Bob has its heart in the right place but doesn’t quite land on a tone to unite hard hitting drama and a cat-based comedy.
