The leads work hard and there’s an attempt to add fun via cheesy music and Salma Hayek, but hackneyed dynamics, half-baked action sequences and saying “motherfucker” does not a Shane Black make.
Two characters, who you won’t like, insulting each other for two hours. Give it a miss and rewatch Midnight Run instead.

Best viewed as a throwback to old-fashioned buddy flicks, The Hitman's Bodyguard is never less than watchable, but let down by a dearth of imagination.
It’s a mystery why actors of the calibre of Jackson, Reynolds and Oldman wanted to appear in such low grade exploitation fare it but at least they give the impression of enjoying themselves.
Only belatedly, with its medium-octane chases around Amsterdam, does this dopey endeavour become the freewheeling romp the trailers promised. For an action-comedy, its timing is lousy.
Definitely not my idea of fun.
Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson buddy up but phone it in.
