The Roommate can’t be taken seriously – for all Meester’s genuine efforts, it’s basically moronic games with the mentally ill – but it also misses the opportunity to go for broke, into a zone of full-tilt trash that might at least have been some fun.
There are some interestingly nasty moments and some chills, but it's predictable.
Best advice is to dig out your DVD of Single White Female instead of wasting money on this tired effort.
Devoid of any serious gore, The Roommate is a pretty tame affair with a staggeringly low body count, but this zero thrills, tension free, predictable schlock does have its easy-on-the-eye cast of smirking thirtysomethings trying to pass as teens going for it.
Theplot never picks up steam, there are gaping implausibilities and the characters are achingly dull.
Witless, badly acted.
