Okay, so it's not exactly a groundbreaking advance from the team behind Ice Age, but with its kaleidoscope of colour and heaps of charm, its impossible to dislike.
Bird tale looks great but visuals can’t hide the lack of a proper story.

Even when the invention droops its high spirits never flag, and the leads – Eisenberg in particular – charm us all the way to the finale. No, not Pixar standard yet, but Rio will more than do for now.
A bright flight of fancy that makes an hour and a half fly by. But it doesn’t really linger, suggesting the Fox-backed Blue Sky still has a way to go to rival Pixar.
Rio may not be remembered, like the crazier Rango, as the most daring or out-there cartoon of the year, but it does what it does delightfully.
This is decent family film for the Easter holidays.
Rio's neither particularly good nor bad. It's not much of anything.
Rio is certainly bright enough and fast enough to act as a diversion for younger children, but its sleek professionalism is also blandly predictable.
It's made with considerable affection, zest and good humour.
There's nothing in Rio that will upset young viewers, and plenty that will entertain them, but the script isn't great.
Children should enjoy it.
