Barak Marshall's The Castaways is a terrific piece of dance theatre combining dark humour and inventive movement to infectious world music - 'Rambert's dancers play out their little dramas as superbly as they ride the irresistible wave of Marshall's choreography' (The Times).
Completing the programme is Terra Incognita, choreographed by ground-breaking dancemaker Shobana Jeyasingh, "one of our most imaginative theatrical auteurs" (Financial Times). Her distinctive style combines mathematical rhythmic patterns from classical Indian dance with contemporary movement. The piece draws on urban legends and ancient cartography to look at the politics and power of journeying into the unknown. These performances mark the Scottish premiere of Terra Incognita, Shobana Jeyasingh's first work for Rambert.
This is definitely a triple treat for the ticket price.
Rooster is both a brilliant showcase for Rambert’s talents as well as proving that there a few boundaries in what dance can tackle. These three pieces plus the others in the tour show that voiceless it might be, but dance is never inarticulate.
Although a mixed bag thematically, Rambert’s selection of dance entertains. Those with even a slight interest in the medium will certainly not be disappointed.
