Scottish Ballet’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire is a triumph, a clever and sophisticated piece of contemporary art in which dance and drama are perfectly balanced. It is vibrant, it is emotional, it is shocking, it is truthful and it is heartbreakingly brilliant as it delivers Williams’ vision with the intensity and emotion it rightly deserves.
This is a production which breathes new life into Williams’ classic tale and one which will leave a lasting impression long after the curtain has gone down.
This talented company demonstrates a boundless ability to execute Ochoa’s technically challenging choreography, and Meckler’s astute and deeply moving portrayal of characters whose desires outstrip their circumstance.
This production is raw in intensity and breath taking in execution – a must-see.
To have re-created the power and emotion of this classic American play into 100 minutes of contemporary dance is an extraordinary artistic achievement. I cannot describe it better myself - the performance is “ like watching a film, musical, play and ballet all at once!”
