A paparazzo claims to have witnessed a terrifying murder. As he is being interrogated about his version of events, you glimpse into the state of his mind through filmic elements projected on giant screens. Did he witness an act of terrorism? Is he involved? Or is he just a fantasist?
Turning to the Camera proves to be sharply-focused and well-developed thriller with enough comic asides and interesting characters to stop it being heavy-handed. And as a snapshot of what Siege Perilous are capable of, it comes highly recommended.
If the play finally scuppers its own chances of saying something timely and significant about the tabloid culture in which it seems to be set, it plays a magnificent role in highlighting the potential of some of the discarded urban spaces of our time.
