With only the bits and pieces from their tiny house, huge imaginations and the strongest sense of the ridiculous, two unlikely storytellers attempt to tell the tale of brave Rudolf, the reindeer with dreams, who just doesn’t “nose” why he doesn’t fit in.
Rudolf was created by Andy Manley, founding member of Visible Fictions Theatre Company and winner of a 2010 Herald Angel and Fringe First award for his sellout children’s production White. It is devised and performed by Ross Allan and Rob Evans, whose recent adaptation Pobby and Dingan won the 2010 TMA Award for Best Show for Children and Young People.
It is a sweet, good-hearted slice of seasonal warmth.
It’s a sweet, clever show, ideal for stepping away from the mainstream Christmas madness.
Rob Evans sometimes overdoes the knowing camp style, the story fizzles out without the final singalong of the Rudolf song it needs, and the final triumphant flight is marred by a visual effect so feeble it should have been sent straight back to the drawing board.
