Making of Us, The

Part of Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2012

The making of us is the latest collaboration between theatre director Graham Eatough (Suspect Culture) and visual artist Graham Fagen, working with renowned Director of Photography Michael McDonough. Read more …

Combining elements of visual art installation and promenade theatre, the project centres on a unique approach to the role of film in a live event and its future representation.

During the opening weekend of the festival, there will be a series of ticketed performances where the audience will be invited to witness the making of a film. Free to move around the space and the various sets constructed within it, the audience will effectively become 'extras' in the film. The sets will then remain in in situ throughout the Festival as an installation which visitors are invited to move around.

Footage recorded during the opening performances will be made into a work in its own right, to be presented at a later date.

Patrons please note: please arrive 30 minutes before the performance begins

The making of us is co-created by Graham Eatough and Graham Fagen, commissioned for Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2012. Produced in partnership with The National Theatre of Scotland, the project has been supported by a Creative Scotland Vital Sparks award.

The critical consensus

A cross between Lars von Trier’s Dogville and Franz Kafka’s The Trial, the passive, almost bureaucratic, setup is the show’s most unsettling aspect.
