Based on the phenomenal Oscar-winning movie that captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation back in the 90s, Ghost is a timeless fantasy about the power of love. Read more …
Sam is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next trying to communicate with girlfriend Molly through a phoney psychic in the hope of saving her from his murderer.
Adapted for the stage by Bruce Joel Rubin from his own Oscar-winning screenplay for the film, the amazing special effects and dazzling staging are by the multi award-winning Paul Kieve (Inner Magic Circle member) and Tony Award-winner Matthew Warchus.
With a score by rock legends and Grammy award winners, Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson and Alanis Morrisette) and featuring the unforgettable Unchained Melody, Ghost is a rollercoaster ride of romance and comedy with dazzling state-of-the-art staging.
Overall, Ghost makes for an enjoyable night out, with intriguing staging, value-packed production numbers and fine performances. It’s not a show to come back from the dead for, but it’s definitely worth a trip.
The show for all its excellence in acting, lighting, special effects and cinematic backdrops seem to lack an important ingredient: the music itself. While not agreeing with a woman behind me who thought it was ‘awful’ there was no way I would have parted with hard cash for a cast recording of ‘Ghost’.
The story is hopelessly romantic, the heaven-and-hell imagery pure hokum; but everyone involved in the Ghost design team – from designer Rob Howell on down – should take a bow for one of the most visually exciting shows ever seen at the Playhouse; a kind of surreal film with live actors, and beautiful with it.
An absolutely wonderful, emotional and awe-inspiring show – you really REALLY must see it, but please take plenty of tissues!
