Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill today revealed the long awaited revival of their much loved characters Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, as it was announced their hit BBC comedy show, STILL GAME, would transfer to the live stage with a run of shows at Glasgow's brand new, state-of-the-art The SSE Hydro. They've not been seen on the small screen since a Hogmanay special in January 2008, but next year will see a FULL REUNION of the original television cast as Jack and Victor are reunited alongside other STILL GAME favourites Winston, Isa, Tam, Navid, and Boabby
Even in the posh seats, it feels more like being at a rally, but Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill transform the energy in this vast room into something special.
Kiernan and Hemphill's writing is as sharp as ever and the ensemble comedy playing aided by Mitchell, Paul Riley, Sanjeev Kohi, Jane McCarry plus a couple of guest stars superb in a night that gives the audience the best of all worlds.
This is a clever, vibrant and packed show which merrily plays to its audience yet has a broad appeal for Craiglang virgins looking for more substance to a comedy stage show. It may be a dangerous thing to say in this post-referendum world, but Still Game really does thrive with being the best of both worlds.
By the time Isa drinks some accidental magic-mushroom soup, triggering the show’s mind-bowing Bollywood finale, the audience is enjoying the night of its life, in a show that earned its place in sitcom history with its rare combination of geriatric wit, ruthless unsentimentality and unstoppable life-force, and demonstrates here that it has lost none of its edge.
Successful move from sitcom to main stage as Still Game develops the art of staging theatre in an arena setting.
