It’s December.
So dust off the tinsel,
whip out your Santa hat,
mull your wine and have a lovely wholesome festive period.
It’s time to celebrate. Read more …
Or is it?
Maybe this year you should stay in and hide. Maybe this year you should get ready to fight.
Because this year, there’s a war on Christmas.
Fresh from his award winning, sell-out Fringe show, Donald Robertson Is Not A Standup Comedian, Gary McNair hits The Arches with a hilariously anarchic take on the Christmas spirit.
Step into the shoes of an enthusiastic young Santa working one of Glasgow’s poorest grottos, as he embarks on a journey to find the true meaning of the season. But be warned: A Christmas Carol this is not.
Invoking equal parts glitter and chaos, McNair invites audiences to work themselves into a festive frenzy in a night of song, silliness and social commentary that will have you saying ‘Humbug!’ to that John Lewis advert.
War on Christmas mixes the best bits of traditional Christmas entertainment with a decent helping of satire, aiming squarely at a decidedly adult- if not entirely grownup- audience.
It’s a good ‘un for the grown-ups (not very child friendly) and will guarantee laughs.
Gary McNair’s broadside against Christmas consumerism ends up being defeated by the sheer power of seasonal goodwill.
