Look out for this family show on its Scottish tour, and have your hankies ready.
The show achieves a fine balance between the sinister and the beautiful.
What so severely lets down an otherwise decent production is its inability to fulfill its own promise of a new and dark retelling of a classic tale, which is disappointingly received by the audience.
It is a wonderfully created arc of friendship that speaks clearly in its subtexts. But it falters at its ending - its final tableau is rushed, reducing the impact of its subversion of the original tale.
