Based on the story and characters from the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks Animation film, this hilarious and spectacular production turns the world of fairytales upside down in an all-singing, all-dancing, must-see musical comedy. Read more …
Join Shrek and his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower, guarded by a fire breathing love-sick dragon. Add the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude, and you’ve got an irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance, guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages!
A fabulous way to introduce those new to musical theatre, while still providing a modern gem for lifelong fans.
Treat yourself this panto season with a topsy, hysterical, heart-warming fairytale.
Shrek is never going to punch like big hitters such as Les Miserables or The Lion King, but by God will it take pop-shots. Gags are in the foreground, background; there are obvious jokes, subtle jokes and puns. What better way to close out the year, than with a series of laughs?
The resulting show gains enough traction to convince as a continuing hit, even if it does not forge an identity of its own.
With all about them damaged goods, the oddball love story between Steffan Harri's Shrek and Laura Main's Princess Fiona appears goofily and charmingly dysfunctional in a world that eventually embraces its diversity in a wise-cracking monster of a show.
In an era where far too much importance is attached to image, it’s an uplifting tale and one which is very enjoyable.
A slow second half is eventually resolved with a speedy denouement, in a long production that tests the endurance of its young target audience, whilst wearying their parents with an absence of sophistication, depth and charm.
It sends up the overmighty, sings and dances up a storm, has plenty of fun; and, in the end, it believes in love – even for those of us who are a touch green, and a little bit overweight.
It is a fittingly upbeat ending to a show that, despite flaws, charts a lively route through the swamp towards a happy ever after.
An entertaining romp which matches the name of the curtain call band: mirth, wind and fire.
