Katie is 18. She hates thinking. But she does think. All the time. Read more …
After her older boyfriend is attacked in the street, Katie is plunged into a wild summer’s evening of fights, car-chases and huge life choices. Her thrilling story is a vital coming-of-age tale for our times, tackling the complexities of modern multicultural society with wit and heart.
Bunny is a funny, exhilarating and poignant play by Jack Thorne, the Olivier award-winning writer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as well as TV shows Skins, This Is England and National Treasure.
A quietly life-changing piece of work.
While deeply political, it would be a shame not to recognise the essence of this play; a coming-of-age play for every woman who’s ever wobbled on the precipice of adulthood.
I could have happily watched this play much longer than the 1hr15min runtime. The plot is fresh and unpredictable and is gripping throughout.
The simple staging in the round is exactly the right setting for Thorne’s play, the lack of bells and whistles keeping our attention squarely on the performance and the agonising build of tension in Katie’s story.
Even though the performance is a fast and manic one, it does feel like it takes its time before we get to the conclusion.
