Kinky Boots might stumble on originality, but with such heart, wit and cracking musical numbers, it’s a kick from start to finish.
Although the show starts slowly it soon builds up and while there’s a somewhat predictable feel-good factor at the end it’s a very enjoyable show.
The moral of the story, just be who you want to be, isn’t the most original, but it bears repeating – and Kinky Boots gives it a very glamorous kick up the backside.

Kinky Boots is glitzy, glamorous and full of heart.
What makes Harvey Fierstein’s book and Cyndi Lauper’s music and lyrics so appealing, though, is the size of the heart (not to mention the balls) of the loud and proud drag queen Lola.
These boots are for oh so much more than walking darlings. They’re made for strutting, but most of all stamping the point home and delivering fierceness.
The ensemble numbers are heightened even more by the glittery showers of showbiz pizazz brought into play by Lola’s troupe of all-male Angels, who strut their stuff on the catwalk to save the day in this most deliciously non-binary of musicals hand-crafted with a common touch.
An exhilarating show for Christmas.
Jerry Mitchell’s production really comes alive with Lola and his entourage of drag “angels”. The heels in which they strut may be death defying, but that doesn’t prevent them from walking away with the show.
Anchored by a mesmerizing performance from Kayi Ushe, Kinky Boots is feisty, fun and vivacious.
Kinky Boots is a fierce and fabulous show with a very important message.
For all its faults, you will be sure to walk out feeling thoroughly entertained and not a little uplifted – well worth watching.
More witty than generic jukebox musicals, it's just the right side of kitsch, and it's a hard heart that doesn't find it all rather touching.
With a finale that got even the most reserved audience member off their seat, this story of passion, drive and friendship is beautiful.
Kinky Boots is a moving, life-affirming tale with a message about tolerance at its core.
