Footage shot by a group of Swedish journalists documenting the Black Power Movement in the United States is edited together by a contemporary Swedish filmmaker.
While it assumes a fair bit of knowledge of the social changes exploding in sixties America, there's a wealth of fascinating material and punchy insights into an earth shaking movement.
Crackling content even when its contexts aren’t clear.
An enthralling study of how a movement inspired many other causes, including feminism and gay rights.
Reaches its peak with fascinating glimpses of fringe figures as well as the headline names.
It simply can’t fail with footage this wild.
An interesting curio from the past, whose documentary potential is not as fully realised as it could have been.
The results are more impressionistic than authoritative, which isn’t to say the film is not valuable as a historical document.
Fascinating.
Turns out to be documentary gold.
