Drama

David Blair directs this British Drama, loosely inspired by John Steinbeck's novel 'Of Mice and Men'.

The critical consensus

Transposing of mice and men, John Steinbeck’s Great Depression novella, to an equally depressing modern-day setting was a brilliant idea, but something’s lost in translation.

***(*)(*)Matt Glasby, Total Film, 23/01/2012

It’s depressing stuff, less because of the subject matter than because it represents everything that’s bad about public funded filmmaking, offering little more than a temporary handout to the cast and crew of an artistically and commercially useless proposition.

**(*)(*)(*)Eddie Harrison, The List, 01/02/2012

A promising cast and some good intentions are put to waste in this unconvincing Brit flick.

**(*)(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 02/02/2012

A tale that is never quite as gritty or as moving as it could have been.

***(*)(*)Allan Hunter, 03/02/2012

Too stupid to be abominable, but only just.

*(*)(*)(*)(*)Christopher Neilan, Little White Lies, 03/02/2012

he film is a cut above recent British low-life crime pictures.

Philip French, The Observer, 05/02/2012
