False Trail is well-paced and strongly acted with the piercing sunlight and beautiful landscapes contrasting nicely with the monstrous acts that unfold in them. Fans of The Killing will not be disappointed.
Plot twists abound, but they don’t detract from the strong character work done by the leads, with Coen brothers regular Stormare on especially unhinged form.
In a golden age for Scandinavian crime procedurals, this is another thoughtful slice of Nordic noir.
Even if you see where the convoluted plot is heading, it makes for a gripping ride thanks to Kjell Sundvall's taut direction and atmospheric location work: on the right day few places look lonelier than a forest in Sweden.
Wintry in setting and tone but reasonably absorbing.
Once you get a hold on the complex backstory, the result is both gripping and disturbing.
