Enjoyable enough as a twist on comic book convention, but despite a likeably indecisive hero, it never finds anything more than 2D characters within its impressively rendered 3D action.
The result isn't bad, but it could have been a lot better.

Outwith Toy Story 3, this is probably the best animated film of the year.
Like Monsters Vs. Aliens, a retro-stylised fantasy-satire that balances knowingness with affection, winning kids and olds over in the process. Wry, spry and very funny.
Undemanding fun.
Like his plans, Megamind verges on greatness but has flaws. But it’s fun, energetic and at times dazzling. Expect a stronger sequel — unlikely to be ‘darker and grittier’, though.
Yet before the visual slapstick locks into overdrive it's also pretty funny, and the romance takes a pleasingly unexpected direction.
In the end, Megamind isn’t terrible, but it’s almost scandalously lacking in ambition.
Good stuff, up to a point, but nothing like the passion and brilliance of The Incredibles or Toy Story.
It may lack a certain freshness but there’s no denying the expert execution.
There's enough loopy fun and arresting visuals to offset the deja vu.
It is not in the same league as Toy Story 3 or How To Train Your Dragon but it is consistently funny and boasts some inspired vocal performances from a starry cast that includes Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt.
There are some decent laughs to be had.
What's missing...is anything sufficiently amusing, heartfelt or surprising to make the film stand out from the cartoon crowd.
