Boulevard (15)

Drama

A devoted husband in a marriage of convenience is forced to confront his secret life.

The critical consensus

The late, great Robin Williams brings great nuance to the anguished Nolan’s inner struggle in a slight but sensitive story about a man facing a life-changing choice. It’s a worthy legacy for a beloved, talented and much-missed actor.

***(*)(*)David Hughes, Empire Online, 08/04/2016

Williams gives a curiously opaque performance in this story of a married 60-year-old confronting his long-closeted homosexuality.

**(*)(*)(*)Wendy Ide, The Guardian, 07/04/2016

There is nothing exceptional about Boulevard but it is sincere and Williams invests his character with a touching sense of weary, wistful sadness.

***(*)(*)Allan Hunter, Daily Express, 08/04/2016

In his final screen role Robin Williams plays a closeted bank worker coyly in love with a young street hustler.

**(*)(*)(*)Jonathan Romney, The Observer, 10/04/2016
