Whether you're Team Liam or Team Noel, Whitecross's film does what good retrospective rock-docs should: makes a seismic moment for rock's history books roar with raucously entertaining life again.
The excitement of Noel and Liam Gallagher’s rapid rise to pop stardom is well captured in Mat Whitecross’s documentary, but it is disappointingly coy on the band’s decline and breakup.
The story of Britpop’s iconic band at its peak is told with wit, honesty and swagger. Which, given its two leads, is entirely fitting.
Unfortunately it ends with the band’s Knebworth concerts in 1996 and largely avoids the acrimony between the siblings and the band’s later years.
