In the end, for all his theatricality and idiosyncrasy, Green manages to convince you that there is method in his madness.
There are longueurs here but the film has an undeniable quirky charm.
Eugène Green’s The Portuguese Nun was a gentle comic gem and his new film about a lonely boy is lovable in exactly the same way.
The Son Of Joseph celebrates the complex relationships between fathers and sons and the healing emotional connections that grow in the most fractured of families.
Not Green’s best, but certainly his most fun and accessible.
The story of a teenager’s quest to find his father is marred by laboured performances.
