It’s perfectly fine and enjoyable up to a point, but the film lacks what made the original a timeless classic.
The action’s passable and Gillan makes a decent fist of an underwritten character. Otherwise, this Jumanji makeover’s a losing game.
A consistently inventive and chucklesome reinvention of the Jumanji concept. Okay, so it coasts on the charm of its lead quartet, but when there’s this much charm, that’s no bad thing.
At least the cast appear to be having fun.
It will be a little too crude for some but Welcome to the Jungle is still heaps of fun.
The pleasure here lies in the often very goofy comedy and the tussling between the four leads, all of them doing their outrageous best to steal scenes from under each other’s noses.
It all makes for an amiable, jocular treasure hunt that is much better than you might have expected and lots of fun.
Body-swapping, a wisecracking cast and a dazzling effects-laden package add up to a game-world movie that outshines its 1995 predecessor.
Retrograde gender stereotypes and knock-off Indiana Jones action set-pieces duly follow.
