Ferdinand (U)

Animation, Adventure, Comedy

After Ferdinand, a bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure.

The critical consensus

Inoffensive fun, but unlike its paperback forbear, the cinematic Ferdinand is unlikely to stand the test of time.

John Cena and David Tennant lend their voices to an overcrowded but endearing animation.

***(*)(*)Kevin Harley, The List, 07/12/2017

There is some sort of message here about tolerance, courage and inclusion but Ferdinand is stuck on the fence when it comes to that tricky question about whether bullfighting is sport or blood-soaked barbarism.

***(*)(*)Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent, 13/12/2017

This frantic animated feature is entertaining enough but it sometimes tries too hard to please.

***(*)(*)Allan Hunter, Daily Express, 15/12/2017

Despite his preference for growing flowers, a sensitive calf cannot escape his destiny in the bullring in this enjoyable family animation.

***(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 14/12/2017

A flower-sniffing bull goes on a journey of self-discovery in this fun adaptation of a 30s children’s book.
