The logic of P U S H is the logic of a dream; full of contradictions and challenges, hopes, fears, needs, desires, and poetry in the mundane. A group of people inhabit this timeless place. Fragments of their ordinary stories unfold and remind us to question what's important. What pushes you to move, to say something, to push back?
Conceived and directed by Christine Devaney- with her growing trademark of marrying expressive choreography and live music with poetic text and video images - P U S H involves a wall, a young girl and an ensemble of "extra/ordinary" people. This promises to be Curious Seed's most challenging and beautiful performance to date.
If Push struggles a little to find its conclusion, the cumulative effect is a bravura challenge to selfish complacency and a heart-rending cry for compassion.
Too much time spent dragging clothes around the stage, and a clock-watchingly slow ending, makes PUSH feels more like a work in progress than the finished article.
There is so much in this work to treasure and chew over thoughtfully afterwards. The end, involving audience participation, is almost overwhelming.
