Janis Claxton Dance: Chaos and Contingency

Janis Claxton Dance: Chaos and Contingency

Janis Claxton Dance has already won plaudits for its imaginative use of public spaces and for its relationship with Chinese dancers on its award-winning shows - Enclosure 44 - Humans and Enclosure 99 - Humans - at Edinburgh Zoo in 2011. Chaos and Contingency will see four Scottish-based dancers joined by five top contemporary Chinese dancers with music composed by theatre and dance stalwart, Philip Pinsky.

Chaos and Contingency
enters the realms of art and science, with this new piece being made to be specifically shown in galleries and museums. Based on the study of emergent mathematical patterns: small variants initiate changes; patterns evolve and dissolve; revealing both a simplicity and complexity within the piece.

With only ten performances in Glasgow (Sat 2 & Sun 3 Mar), Aberdeen (Sat 16 Mar) and Edinburgh (Sat 23 & Sun 24 Mar), Chaos and Contingency offers a rare chance to experience one of Scotland’s finest choreographers, Janis Claxton, working with a company of exquisite dancers in what promises to be a unique art and science collaboration.
