The ultimate spectacle. Primary colours that burst out of the darkness. Billowing ball gowns whisking you into a magical world. And Prokofiev’s irresistibly melodic score showing well-loved characters in a whole new light – performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. Read more …
Christopher Hampson’s Cinderella is everything you adore about the classic fairy tale – made fresh, funny and touching.
We meet Cinderella at the saddest of times, then see her taken for granted by her wicked stepmother and two nasty stepsisters. But there’s no time for despair: Cinderella’s fairy godmother is casting spells of dressmaker spiders, magical roses and a very special glass slipper. Will love conquer loneliness, and light chase away the dark? Be part of the spectacle, and rediscover this classic tale.
Devised by our artistic director for Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2007, Scottish Ballet staged the European premiere of Cinderella to widespread acclaim in 2015.
Running time: The performance lasts approximately two hours and 20 minutes including two 20 minute intervals.
The freshness and approachability retained by this revival do all concerned great credit. Perhaps a smidgeon of its personality has been lost, and the humour threatens to overshadow the magic, but it remains a thing of considerable beauty.
A wonderful evening's entertainment at the ballet and Hampson's creation has shown that it can stand the test of time.
A production that ultimately feels like a celebration of the triumph of good taste and judgment over vulgarity.
Stylish, elegant and magical, Scottish Ballet's Cinderella, choreographed by Christopher Hampson, at times takes one's breath away.
An enchanting and wholesome interpretation of the classic folk tale.
Enchanting, concise and fun!
This is a production which dazzles, with its eerie, sprightly and ultimately euphoric sequences.
The story is traditionally told with funny moments, which never overpower or try too hard.
The overwhelming feeling I got from Christopher Hampson's production was pure magic. Cinderella is a stunning show with seemingly effortless performances from an exceptional cast.
