If the situation is desperate enough then a mother will eat her young, said Baba Yaga ... Battle lines are drawn across 400 years between Scotland and Russia as two families prepare for a wedding.

This uplifting audio play leads audiences through the streets and hidden spaces of Edinburgh, as Poorboy bring alive their imaginative world of sinister fairy tales and the realities of family life, through stories, music and soundscape.

The critical consensus

At first it seems as if there might be over-many strands in writer/director Sandy Thomson’s epic tapestry. But gradually, as voices weave to and fro across history and continents – the modern love story links Scotland and Russia – you gain a sense of the family ties and how the old stories of witches, magic horses and true love have roots in our own emotions and experiences.

Beautifully life-affirming...an exquisit piece of writing.

Shona Craven, Onstage Scotland
