Edinburgh Art Festival (EAF) announce their programme for the 8th edition of Scotland’s largest annual festival of visual art. This year’s programme will showcase major solo exhibitions and new work by leading international artists alongside the best emerging talent. Major exhibitions will take place in 42 museums, non-profit, commercial and artist-run spaces throughout Edinburgh’s historic city centre and beyond. Read more …

The programme will be accompanied by a diverse and innovative events programme, including the return of Art Late, EAF’s programme of late night openings and events, as well as a varied programme of workshops, talks and educational events throughout the Festival.

Exhibitions by leading British sculptors including ANISH KAPOOR’s first solo exhibition in Scotland; DAVID MACH at City Art Centre; TONY CRAGG at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art; and THOMAS HOUSEAGO at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Solo exhibitions by leading international artists including ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG at Inverleith House; INGRID CALAME at The Fruitmarket Gallery; and ANTON HENNING at Talbot Rice Gallery.

Two major newly-commissioned Expo-funded public artworks: MARTIN CREED’s permanent installation on the Scotsman Steps; and the temporary SOLAR PAVILION in St Andrew Square Gardens, designed by Karen Forbes.

Historical exhibitions including THE NORTHERN RENAISSANCE: DÜRER TO HOLBEIN at The Queen’s Gallery; and two major portraiture exhibitions: 500 YEARS OF SCOTTISH PORTRAITURE at Bourne Fine Art; and THE QUEEN: ART AND IMAGE at the Scottish National Gallery; as well as an outstanding collection of work inglass at the newly re-opening NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCOTLAND.

Exhibitions by the best established and emerging British artists including ELIZABETH BLACKADDER, JOHN BYRNE, TAMSYN CHALLENGER, CHRIS DRURY and STEPHEN SUTCLIFFE.

The core dates for this year’s Art Festival are 4 August – 4 September 2011 with many exhibitions continuing into the autumn.
