Based on the award-winning DreamWorks animation film, Shrek the Musical is this year’s must-see show for all the family. Read more …
Join our unlikely hero and his loyal steed Donkey as they embark on a quest to rescue the beautiful (if slightly temperamental) Princess Fiona from a fire breathing, love-sick dragon. Add the diminutive Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude, and you’ve got the biggest, brightest musical comedy around!
Featuring all new songs as well as cult Shrek anthem I’m a Believer, Shrek the Musical brings all the much-loved DreamWorks characters to life, live on stage, in an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza. Join the adventure.
Verdict: Big, bold and brassy touring version of the DreamWorks favourite is likely to please all ages.
In the end, though, none of these flaws spoils the fun, in a conspicuously good-looking show illuminated by two strong central performances.
If you loved the films you’ll love the musical.
This is a huge, big-hearted romp replete with frolics, farts and fun for all the family. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Shrek the film is so well-loved, producers of the live show knew they had to stay true to the atmosphere of friendly anarchy, clever dialogue and true love – and they do just that.
Shrek The Musical ticks all the obvious boxes for family-cum-light entertainment but ultimately lacks soul.
Overall, it’s a fantastic family show which will have kids of all ages entertained, and as an added bonus, keep alert for numerous amusing musical parodies peppered throughout.
Fun, hugely entertaining, and brilliantly performed, this still just lacks for the true heart which would allow it to shine as it might.
