Everybody Cut Loose as the explosive Rock ‘n’ Roll musical Footloose bursts on to the stage in 2016. Read more …
Based on the 1980s riveting screen sensation, which took the world by storm with its youthful spirit, dazzling dance and electrifying music. Footloose tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town up on its feet.
With a dynamic cast, including Gareth Gates as Willard and Maureen Nolan as Vi Moore, this fast-paced show is not only packed full of amazing dance but serves up some classic 80s hits, including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let's Hear it for the Boy and of course the unforgettable title track Footloose.
While Footloose is nostalgic enough to satisfy most and fun enough to draw in the younger crowd, its ultimately not quite enough to live up to its big screen counterpart or satisfy those looking for a little more depth.
A thoroughly entertaining evening.
Footloose is a production which will cross generations and cause everyone to cut loose, enjoy themselves and perhaps even prompt the purchase of some denim hot pants.
This should be a show which focuses on dance; the choreography should be at the forefront of the performances. However, the dancers and style of choreography are missing a slicker edge that would make the moves stand out and impress. It lacks energy and technical precision.
The story romps through to a rousing conclusion.
Despite a few long drawn out scenes, Footloose is a lot of fun and it is certainly a crowd pleaser that will leave you smiling long after you leave the theatre.
