Theatre Review: Slava's Snowshow ****

Ashling Findlay-Carroll reviews a production that leaves audiences 'filled with wonder'.

Slava’s Snowshow is for anyone who has ever been a child. It transports the audience back to a time when imagination could take us anywhere—and the skilled performers do just that, leading us through a series of games in various comical scenarios with ease.

Throughout, the company play with the audience, and the mischievousness and innocence of the theatre clown is at the heart of this heart-warming 90 minutes. The final spectacle is so breath-taking it is capable of inducing laughter and tears of joy.

The first act starts more slowly than the second, which contains more laugh-out-loud moments, but both have the same playfulness and glint in their eye as the performers display expert physical control, changing their bodies to much comical effect.

The clowns leave the audience playing with each other: the faces of children and adults alike filled with wonder as they giggle and squeal in response! It is a wonderful sight which reminds us of how nice it is to forget all about the responsibilities of the “real world” and just play for a while.

Slava’s Snowshow is at the Kings in Glasgow until November 11th before continuing its UK tour.
