Neil Young returns to his birth Canadian province of Ontario to revisit his old haunts and to perform in Toronto's vintage Massey Hall.
This is Jonathan Demme's third documentary collaboration with Young, and I am at a loss to know what he finds so compelling.
You probably have to be a devoted fan to get the most out of Neil Young Journeys, a mournful documentary that combines footage of Young in concert in Toronto with a bittersweet trip to his childhood home in Omemee in southern Ontario.
Attaching his camera to the mic stand for a couple of numbers, Demme hasn't stopped seeking out new angles on this old warhorse, and even the odd speck of spittle on the lens cannot obscure the fact Young increasingly looks and sounds like one of the all-time greats.
Attractive.
An intimate homecoming documentary by the country rock legend, shot by Jonathan Demme.
