Two kids look to throw an ambitious dance show in order to save their struggling youth center.
This spin-off from the bafflingly successful Street Dance movies is much better than its junior Britain’s Got Talent-esque premise suggests. Credit first-time director Ben Gregor for this.
It's formulaic but fun and energetically performed with an engaging performance by Ashley Jensen as the centre¹s sparky supervisor. The dance sequences are well staged, including some inventive fantasy sequences.
The director, Ben Gregor, "mixes it up" with daydream dance sequences, one of them based on Space Invaders ("Yeah, they came out of the Second World War"), but the script is a paltry jumble of aspirational clichés and modish street-talk.
It seems derivative and lacklustre, and really inferior to almost anything on CBBC or CITV.
Derivative but occasionally fun.
It's very sub Grange Hill and Waterloo Road.
